Should You Repair or Replace Your Siding?

Your siding does more than enhance the appearance of your exterior. It also helps insulate and protect your home from temperature changes and damaging elements. However, your siding needs to be in optimal condition for you to reap all of its benefits, which is why it’s necessary to know when to perform repairs or have it completely replaced.

In this post, a siding contractor shares the signs.

You Should Repair Your Siding When…

There is mild to moderate mold. If you spot any evidence of mold, it is best to call in professionals for repairs. They will locate the root cause of the issue so as to mitigate and prevent mold from affecting other parts of your siding.

There are cracks or dents on the panels. Cracks in a small area are easily repaired. For extensive cracking, you may have to replace the damaged panel or board altogether. The same goes for dents. This particular damage usually requires a panel replacement.

There are holes in the siding. Holes do not only allow moisture to leak into your siding, but they are also a sign that insects are eating away at your exterior walls. By taking care of this problem, you can put off the need for a siding replacement for several years.

You Should Replace Your Siding When…

There is severe dry rot. Even if dry rot seems minimal, it is a common indication that your siding is beginning to fail. It often starts underneath the surface and will continue to chew away the body of your siding if not addressed soon enough.

There are bubbles on the siding. Bubbles are a sign that moisture is trapped below the surface of your siding. This issue typically requires a replacement.

There is a need for frequent maintenance. If you find yourself having to repaint or repair your siding on an annual basis or even more frequently, then a replacement is most certainly due.
